Ambassador



Ambassadors from the Major Houses have been selected and have taken their seats in the Star League Council doing their job as best as possible. But one still eludes the council hall of the DMM and that one is the Lyran Alliance representative.

Just out of curiosity, but would it be possible to get a brief list on what an ambassador is expected to do, what they are allowed to do in regards to the realm they are presiding over, and what is needed other than new contracts and news from the realm?

Depending on the answer, I am honestly interested to contribute, provided you find me adequate for the position.

Based on the old website rules the Ambassador is supposed to do the following things;

1) Contribute at least two contracts to the contract pool a month. This wasn't a hard rule back then but given the contract drought I've seen recently I think it should be more strictly enforced now.

2) Upon submission of contract transcripts, evaluate them then inform the director whether or not the mission has been completed in a satisfactory manner so that contract payment may be released and the supplemental contract be commenced. During my tenure as Combine ambassador, to make my life easier, I required that mercenaries working for the Combine attach a cover letter to their transcript which is essentially a summary report of the entire campaign.

3) Manage the metaplot goings on within one's nation as well as that of a Periphery realm ancillary to yours. For the Lyrans, this usually means you also have to attend to the events between the Marian Hegemony and Circinus Federation. This is usually done by the Monthly Updates discussed by General Nelson in another thread and was accomplished rather exceptionally by our former FWL Ambassador Bruce Haas with the FWL Civil War metaplot.

4) Be accessible to players for consultation.

5) Upon resignation, assist in the turnover of responsibilities to your successor. This isn't so much a rule as good professional manners. Its advisable to keep notes and be available for consultation so that your successor can seamlessly pickup from where you left off.

As former Ambassador Angus McCleod, I fully support Reiko's bid and wish her good luck.

The Ambassador should also have a vague idea about the location and strength of some of the major units within their realm. While this is not entirely necessary, it helps to maintain continuity when it comes to supporting and opposing forces in the area. Plus, the Margraves (CO's) of the combat theatres should be kept up to date as well as the major nobles, as some of these would be getting pretty old/dead by now!

Well, there's a reason LA has some of the oldest generals... they usually conduct battle from several hundreds of light years away...

ouch thats a little harsh wouldnt you say, hes just starting up.. and threw in a couple of contracts so far and is working on bringing some news to the realm.

When you have such a 'large' pool of volunteers to take up such a position you tend to settle for someone that at first appears to meet the qualifications.

Reiko has been with us, the community, for some time now and i trust that she has the dedication required for this, but the final answer will come after the DG processes her application and staff reviews it.

And you all are totally misunderstanding what I am saying. What I am saying is they should not hire staff just because any particular MUCO happens to endorse them. Ultimately the success of any position being filled depends on who the DG selects. In no way was I suggesting that Reiko was not qualified.

I think Reiko is qualified. I'm not questioning anyone in particular, just the system.

Problem with offering any job to anyone is that we wouldn't know how he/she will perform until he/she actually do it. Reiko has proved to be a prolific writer, and had clocked regular time on the forums. Votes by the community might count for nothing, but given her track record, I have no doubt that she would at least be around to answer questions, put up posts, etc.
