Ha ha, think you're the only fan of Star Wars here? Nice reference to the Smugglers moon, though I don't know Madripoor.

Not at all opposed to seeing the Dompaire reaches come togheter (I suggested it a couple posts back)....but seriously opposed, as I ever shall be, to Devlin Stone. Disarmament, peace treaties and forceful annexation of some of the core worlds of each realm? Not a fan of what it did to the Battletech universe (KILLED IT). What self resepecting mercenary can make a living in a world like that??

Easy there. Devlin stone exists in the universe. The jihad didn't happen so the odd out of character things that happened as a response to it won't be as likely. However I do like the idea of Stone becoming something of a cold hearted Dictator with a hatred for all things Clan and Lyran ;) Might be an interesting place for Wobbie messing around too behind the scenes (although not necessarily pulling Devlin's strings).

Actually, Dee, I find myself enjoying the Jihad as it progresses. The 'Hot Spots' sourcebook formats which they finally hit upon are THE most enjoyable game books I have ever read, bar none. I wish they could have done it for the FedComm Civil War, or maybe the Clan invasion. Oh well.

That being said, I'm not a big fan of the Dark Ages either, but I find the appearance of a Devlin Stone character - maybe as an iron fisted dictator, as Feret suggests - to be remarkably amusing.

Maybe Stone could become a powerful anti-mercenary force. I mean I am pretty sure leading up to the Dark Ages he was having his armies forcibly shut down Mercenary Units by the hundred. Can you guys imagine if we all suddenly became outlaws because the politicians decided that private individuals and corporations were no longer allowed to legally possess battlemechs?

Too much is not enough
Nobody said this stuff makes any sense
We're hooked again

Point of no return
See how the buildings burn
Light up the night
Such pretty sight

Adrenaline keeps me in the game
Adrenaline you don't even feel the pain
Wilder than your wildest dreams
When you're going to extremes
It takes adrenaline

I want to see Devlin Stone show up myself...

So we can force-feed him a Gauss Slug. Or ten. ^_^

That is the most insane, preposterous idea to ever hit Merc-Net. Merc-Net is all about honourless lucre-warriors stomping around in big BattleMechs for ten sawbucks out of any Tom, Dick and Harry's wallet. Merc-Net is all about mercenaries being run by the DMM and being given more respect than Rodney Dangerfield. How could you possibly suggest mercenaries becoming outlawed?

It would mean a massive, universe-spanning campaign of thoroughly dissatisfied Spheroids that have had it right up to here with guns-for-hire mucking up their home planets. It would mean vicious, conniving personalities tweaking the strings behind the scenes to cause wholesale chaos and bloodshed for their own gains. It would mean elite mercenary units being hunted down like outlaws and forced to surrender their most prized machines of war at PPC-point.

It would mean House regulars turning on their own mercs. It would mean Succession Wars style border conflicts as Houses get stripped of valuable crack regiments of mercs. It would mean Clans steamrolling into the Lyran Alliance when the Kell Hounds are threatened with disbandment. It would mean the organisation of self-styled posses whose job it is to run down, say, the Antarian Lancers and exterminate them. It would mean public outcry against the mercenary trade. It would mean mercs turning on mercs. It would mean mercs banding together in the face of overwhelming firepower.

It would be glorious. DAMN I LOVE IT!!!

wow that is really jumping to a conclusion. First the suggestion was that Devlin Stone come on the scene in Dompaire reaches. Which means he has to worry about all sorts of things, Two Clans, the Lyrans, and perhaps rogue elements within the reaches. It would be within his reaches that he'd have control and it would be a while before he could ever get the power to really lash out at anyone else outside the reaches.
